Elegant Demise

water fountain, blue fountain, blue light fountainby R.S. Jacobs

There are many types of tears,

I’ll name two of them for you.

When insulted by allies,

They shed salty, bitter rain.

When deserted and alone,

Down falls one lone icy tear.

There are many types of tears

That the sorrowful may cry.

There are many types of pain,

I’ll name a few kinds for you.

There’s the dull, hollowed-out sort,

That comes after a cruel loss.

There is the sharp stab of wounds,

And also the throbbing ache.

There are many types of pain,

That the sorrowful can feel.

Myriad are ways to die,

But just these will have to do.

One may die by sudden death,

Or one drawn out, pained and slow.

Violently can one go out,

Or find demise elegant.

But myriad are death’s ways,

To which sorrowful fall prey.half head, half face, face statue

Some say life is a balance

Of weeping and pain and death,

And that if one’s life is sweet,

Their death will be quite shocking.

I hope that with all this pain,

I might greet the end of life

With my elegant demise.
